Kampung Serkam is about 23 kilometres away from Melaka City. It was opened by a family originated from Palembang Indonesia. Dato' Isnin, with his five sons, Abas, Dato' Marsah, Dato' Ab Raof, Dato' Bujal and Dato' Othman pioneered the development of Serkam's society as seen now.

From Melaka City, visitors can use Alor Gajah - Melaka Tengah - Jasin Expressway (AMJ) which is a shortcut to Muar, Johor to reach Kampung Serkam. The journey by car takes only about 15 minutes. Kampung Serkam is located in Jasin district and Serkam Sub-District. It comes under the administration of Serkam State Assembly, Jasin Parliamentary and Jasin Town Council. Villagers usually buy their necessities in the small town of Serkam and Merlimau town which is about 4 kilometres from the village.

Kampung Serkam, where ex Inspector General of Police, Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Mohd Noor was born, is the main village while Kampung Serkam Timur, Kampung Serkam Tengah, Kampung Serkam Barat, Kampung Serkam Pekan and Kampung Solok Anak Air are the linking villages.
